Certification

Once you have successfully completed all Washington state and MIT endorsement and teacher education program requirements, Seattle University will recommend you to the State of Washington for a first-issue Residency Certificate.

This certificate is valid until you have completed two consecutive years of successful teaching with a Washington public school or approved private school and have signed a third-year contract. At that time, you must apply for a reissued Residency Certificate, which will be valid for an additional five years. Within those five years, you must either complete a Professional Certification program, or earn National Board Certification.

For more information on teacher certification in Washington state please refer to the Office of the Superintendant of Public Instruction certification website.
