Biography

Dr. Nick Erber-LaPierre earned his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University (CACREP). His dissertation work focused on transgender identity development in rural areas through a multiple case study design. Dr. Erber-LaPierre also holds a Master of Arts in Community Counseling and Holistic Health from Western Michigan University (CACREP), and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Interdisciplinary Health Studies from Michigan State University. Dr. Erber-LaPierre is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Chemical Dependence Professional in WA, and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan since 2006, with a supervisor credential, a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor.

Prior to coming to Seattle University, Dr. Erber-LaPierre worked in several community agencies, including North Country Community Mental Health, the Women’s Resource Center in Traverse City, MI, and Munson Medical Center. Dr. Erber-LaPierre has worked in several roles in each of these agencies, including case manager, therapist, emergency services worker, and program manager. Dr. Erber-LaPierre served as an affiliate therapist for the Comprehensive Gender Services Program for the University of Michigan. Dr. Erber-LaPierre has clinical experience working with people who seek help with LGBTQ+ identity, transgender health, substance use disorders, HIV/AIDS, emergency services, inpatient consultation, personality disorders, and chronic mental illness. In the past, Dr. Erber-LaPierre has served as Treasurer of the Michigan Counseling Association and President of the Licensed Professional Counselors of Northern Michigan. Dr. Erber-LaPierre serves as clinical instructor faculty for the Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling programs at Seattle University.
