The Center for the Study of Justice in Society (CSJS) supports university faculty in engaging in collaborative, community-based scholarship (CBS). CBS is scholarship that is conducted with and for, not on, members of a community.
Community-based scholarship is a collaborative enterprise that creates partnerships between university and community partners.
This focus on scholarship can also be a process that combines classroom learning and skills development with social action to empower community groups to shape their own futures. In this model, our scholarship emphasizes students' and colleagues' development of knowledge and skills that prepare them to be active creators and effective agents in their civic participation.
