Washington State guidelines for dining on college campuses

October 7, 2020

Dear Residents:

The university has been advised of important guidelines for dining on college campuses by Governor Inslee’s office. As a university in Washington State, we are required to follow these guidelines. The guidance requires the following:

  • Dining facilities must offer takeout meals or single seating only. The only exception to single seating is for roommates, who may sit at the same table while dining, with a maximum of two persons.
  • Tables must be kept at least 6 feet apart. Please do not move or rearrange furniture in campus dining facilities.
  • Athletics teams and other groups may not dine together. The only exception is for roommates, who may sit at the same table while dining, with a maximum of two persons.

Note that only roommates are permitted to sit at two-person tables with one another. Diners are not permitted to sit at two-person tables with another person unless that person is a roommate. Diners are limited to dining with one roommate, for a maximum of two persons at the same table.

Face coverings can be removed while eating but must be worn at all other times on-campus, whether indoors or outdoors. This includes classrooms, residence halls, the library, the Student Center, campus malls, fields and green spaces, and all other university property.

Sincerely,

James Willette, Ph.D. | Associate Vice President & Dean of Students
