Springing Ahead

With Spring Break in the rear view mirror, we now hit the homestretch of Seattle University’s academic year. Here are just a few of the events taking place now through the end of April.

Sheila Davis will deliver the keynote for the College of Nursing Dean’s Annual Lecture, “The Role of Human Rights in Nursing,” 4-6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 30, in Campion Ballroom. Davis is chief nursing officer at Partners in Health, where she led the organization’s Ebola response efforts in West Africa during the 2014 epidemic. Read more and RSVP here »

At this year’s Mission Day on Thursday, April 6, we will take up the topic of “Honoring Our Past to Inform Our Future: Seattle University’s Mission at 125.” Mission Day begins at the North Court of Connolly Center with coffee and continental breakfast at 8 a.m. with the program running from 9 a.m. to noon. Lunch will follow. Classes are cancelled that morning.

Three faculty will explore the relationship between wonder, awe, the art of looking and scientific discovery. “Contemplation, Science and the Arts” will include presentations by Naomi Kasumi (Associate Professor, Art & Art History), Paul Fontana (Associate Professor, Physics) and Wesley Lauer (Director, Environmental Science Program). Washington Governor Jay Inslee will speak about current events and the future of public service in our state and country at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, in Pigott Auditorium. A reception will precede the conversation. Register here »

The month of April brings with it the culmination of Lent, Holy Week and, of course, Easter. Stay tuned for more information on services at the chapel.

Ben Minicucci, president and COO of Alaska Airlines, will give a talk as part of the Albers Executive Speaker Series, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 20, in Pigott Auditorium.

The Seattle University Choirs’ Spring Concert takes place Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22—both performances are at 8 p.m. at St. Joseph Church. Click here for more details.
