A team of SU women’s rowers topped the field at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships last month in Sacramento. “This is the first time a boat from Seattle University has won an event,” said Kaila Najar, vice president of women’s crew.
The victorious lightweight four crew led an impressive showing for SU’s rowing club. “Four out of our five boats made it to the grand finals,” said Najar. The women’s varsity four took fifth place, and the women’s novice four took sixth, as did the men’s varsity four. “The women's novice 8 made a valiant effort overcoming some equipment obstacles and raced aggressively,” Najar added.
SU’s club program competed against Division II Division III and club programs from Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona and Colorado.
“With many of the transitions the crew club has undergone this year, including a change of boathouses and coaching staff, the results are a testament to the hard work and determination that all of the rowers have put in over the past year,” said Najar.
