A team of MBA candidates in Albers took first place in the inaugural Pacific Northwest MBA Case Competition, which was held at the University of Washington last weekend. Named “Pike Place Partners,” the SU team prevailed over seven others representing the University of Washington, UW Bothell, UW Tacoma, Gonzaga, Seattle Pacific University and the University of British Columbia.
The winning team is pictured here and includes (left to right) Derrick Peters, Shelby Gagnon, John Sims and Justin Lohn.
For the competition, each team was asked to create a strategy for restoring a struggling company to profitability and was judged on the recommendation they would present to the company’s executive team and board of directors.
“It was no easy task,” says Peters. “To add to the uniqueness of the victory, we encountered even more adversity. During our preparation phase we were limited on places to rehearse our presentation. UW closed PACCAR Hall at 2 a.m. and the Starbucks in U-Village didn't permit us to utilize their space. So deep into the night we ended up rehearsing in the QFC parking lot in my Yukon till nearly 4 a.m.; talk about devotion!”
