Dora Nikolova Bittau, the Bulgarian artist behind the five paintings prominent in the Chapel of St. Ignatius, poses with her son, Andrea, during a visit to Seattle University where for the first time she saw her paintings in the chapel. The acrylic and gold leaf paintings depict the spiritual journey of St. Ignatius Loyola. Based in Rome, Bittau is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Bittau was in Seattle—her first trip to the city—to do a painting for the Christ Our Hope parish downtown. In addition to seeing her work Bittau and her son toured the chapel with Paul Janowiak, S.J.
