Through this CEJS-sponsored project we will document the experiences of Seattle University and University of Central America (UCA) – Managua students as they work collaboratively to design a wastewater treatment system for coffee farmers in rural Nicaragua. The project involves student exchange between the schools, with Seattle University students having traveled to Nicaragua in December 2012, and the UCA students arriving in July 2013. The outcomes from this project will include a journal article documenting the students’ overall experience and lessons learned, a video interview that can be shared with other student groups, and a one-page flyer that presents the final wastewater treatment system design and can be easily disseminated to other farms in the region.
