Transportation and Commuting

• Register your bike; plan a safe bike route to campus; find a map of campus bike racks; sign up for the secure, covered bike lot; rent a locker; and use the shower: Learn more here.
  • There is one secured bike storage area for commuters located in the 5th floor of the Murphy Garage.
  • Bicycle racks are located around campus: 130 covered bike spaces and 215 uncovered bike spaces.
  • There are showers and lockers located in the Student Center and in the Fitness Center for commuters.
  • 5 days of car parking or month for $15 per quarter.

There are currently two different types of bikes (Lime and Veo) available for rent in Seattle and three scooter share programs (Bird, Lime, and LINK). Learn more here.

• Seattle University Students, Staff and Faculty may request a walking escort up to two blocks off the campus perimeter.

• Skateboards and roller blades/skates may be used on campus for the purpose of transportation. They may only be ridden on the campus pedestrian malls.
• Restrictions:
  • Skateboards or roller blades/skates are prohibited on campus roadways which enter/exit parking facilities, concrete pedestrian areas, sidewalks, building ledges, or in buildings, etc.
  • At all times pedestrians have the right-of-way.
  • Recreational/trick/stunt riding is prohibited on campus property.

• Employees:
  • Employees pay $12.54 per month for a university subsidized Transit Pass that includes bus and train travel across three counties and an emergency taxi ride home if needed.
  • Transit Pass holders receive a complementary virtual parking card for up to 15 days of parking per quarter should they need to park on campus.
  • A 72% subsidy is offered to employees using walk-on ferry service. Car ferry service is not eligible for subsidy.
• Students:
  • The university subsidizes student Transit Passes at 50%.
• A limited number of daily ORCA bus passes for students are available for check out at the Student Center (ConnectSU Hub). Daily ORCA passes are meant for short-term transportation needs and to reduce the environmental impact of a student's trip in the Seattle area.

• The university offers a guaranteed ride home program to regular users of alternative modes of transportation. The university pays for a taxi ride or Lyft ride home in case of an emergency for employees who do not take their car to work - these employees are typically Orca Transit pass users, or are of part of a carpool, vanshare, or vanpool. • Employees and students who enroll in carpool pay a reduced rate for their carpool parking permit.
• Each member of the carpool group is allowed to drive as a single occupant vehicle to campus approximately 1 day per week with a valid parking pass.

• Employees and students who want to find groups to rideshare with can join the Ride Share Board page on ConnectSU and/or register using their Seattle University email at RideshareOnline.com.

• King County Metro supplies a van for a group of employees and students to commute together, or provides access to other institution's vanpools commuting between similar locations. The group shares Metro's van use fee and Seattle University waives the on-campus parking fee for vans parked on campus. Learn more
