Within two days of registration opening, Lyn's Summer 2015 fully online UCOR course, Natural Hazards, was full. So what does a new online instructor do? Open another section of course. Lyn built her online course with the style and gusto that we suspect she embodies into most aspects of her life. To get the course started on the right foot, she scheduled a one-on-one meeting with each student, which was conducted via the SU web conferencing application, Zoom, or Skype. In addition to this external instructional technology, Lyn also used many features built-in to Canvas. She took advantage of the Canvas quiz tool, discussions, and assignments. Lyn did a nice job of tying outcomes to assessment by displaying a simple table (see below) and also prominently displaying the week's "Big Questions" on the unit home page. Lyn also produced lots of lecturettes, short, bite-sized lectures.
