Emily Lieb created a clear course structure for her online summer course, Poverty in America. Designed around the three major themes (shown on the homepage) this was a discussion intensive course. To keep students on track Emily laid out very specific to-do lists for each day with links to the reading material and discussion boards. Like its face-to-face counterpart, Poverty in America revolved around the ideas students surfaced during class discussions and Emily wanted to be able to follow up on those ideas in an organic rather than a canned manner. She designed the course with lots of video placeholders where she could insert informal videos recapping the discussions and suggesting ideas for the students to consider as they moved forward.
