Introducing a Sliding Scale for Place-Based Justice Network Membership
The work of the PBJN is driven by the volunteer labor of leaders in the field to guide and co-create resources on how to best apply our shared values to long-term commitments of institutions of higher education to geographically specific neighborhoods. The development of the network to date has been underwritten with the support of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. We are now seeking to sustain and grow the network through the introduction of a sliding scale membership model. This model expands PBJN membership to individuals. Membership fees support the administrative costs of maintaining the network.
Benefits of Membership

Responsibilities of Membership
Our sliding scale is an intentional effort to distribute resources equitably between organizations we work with; as well as to support and strengthen groups doing strategic movement-building work. This scale has been adapted with permission from the Anti-Oppression Resources and Training Association (AORTA).
PBJN Membership enrollment is held annually from August 1st - September 15th of each academic year. All annual memberships expire on August 1st of each year.
PBJN Institutional Memberships Institutional Fees (Beginning August 1st 2021 through August 1st 2022) will be at three levels: Solidarity at $500, Sustain at $750, and Redistribute at $1,000. In the future, we hope to offer individual membership to the Place-Based Network.
We offer Place-Based Justice Network (PBJN) Memberships at different rates depending on your individual and institutional access to money and wealth. To figure out what membership will cost you, take this short quiz:
If you are signing up as a lead contact of a College or University, select where the most statements are true for your Center. We know that the picture of a department or center’s financial resources can be complex, and not every statement in any category might be true for your institution.
These questions are centered on the primary department or center that plans, coordinates, implements, evaluates and funds place-based community engagement efforts and initiatives at your institution of higher education.
SOLIDARITY: 1-year Membership $500
SUSTAIN: 1-year Membership $750
REDISTRIBUTION: 1-year Membership $1,000
*Annual budget includes operating, programmatic, salary, gifts, grant and endowment funds.
