Academic Service-Learning

Academic Service-Learning connects concepts in the classroom to service experiences in the community. The CCE works with instructors  to identify community organizations that offer service-learning placements and projects to students.

CCE staff members assist with project scoping, registration, tracking hours, background checks, and receiving student evaluations from community partners. CCE staff are also happy to help coordinate in-class presentations with community partners and offer our Learn to Serve II training at the request of instructors.

The Center for Community Engagement encourages a critical approach to community engaged teaching and scholarship by encouraging faculty to develop authentic relationships, advocate for social change, and work to redistribute power. Critical community engagement seeks to “deconstruct systems of power so the need for service and the inequalities that create and sustain them are dismantled” (Mitchell, 2008).
