ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-22

 

Graduate assistantships are only available for fully admitted students of the MBA in Sport and Entertainment Management (MBA SEM) program.

While GA positions can be a great way to help pay for your graduate education, these positions are intended for those students who fully intend to work in collegiate athletics or university settings.

You will be an integral part of SU’s Athletic Department. These positions require energy, commitment, and a high level of self-accountability and responsibility.

STUDENT-ATHLETE ACADEMIC SUPPORT GRADUATE ASSISTANT


Job Description:

  • Promote a positive and professional atmosphere consistent with the mission of Seattle University, Department of Athletics, and the philosophy of the National Collegiate Athletic Association
  • Ability to use problem-solving and ethical decision-making skills on a daily basis in line with NCAA Academic Standards and Bylaw 14.
  • Provide excellent supplemental advising and mentorship to student-athletes.
  • Communicate effectively with coaching staff members from 3-6 teams with primary academic support duties.
  • Assist in planning all student-athlete development events, including orientations, speakers, career programming, service, and wellness programming.
  • Monitor study hall for student-athletes.
  • Attend advising network meetings and professional development events.
  • Liaison with campus resources (Learning Assistance Programs, Writing Center, Math Lab, Career Services, Academic Departments, and others)
  • Assist with the purchasing of textbooks and coordinate the return process for student-athletes on textbook scholarship each term.
  • Create and distribute class absence letters and calendars each term for applicable teams.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Student-Athlete Academic Services staff

Job Qualifications:

  • Current bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Admitted and pursuing an MBA in Sports and Entertainment Management (MBA SEM) at Seattle University.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to develop a strong working knowledge of and adherence to NCAA compliance rules and Seattle University institutional policies
  • Excellent computer skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to multitask and deal with multiple situations.
  • Motivated and able to work independently in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

 

ATHLETIC ADVANCEMENT & DONOR RELATIONS GRADUATE ASSISTANT



Job Description:

  • Promote a strong, positive, and professional atmosphere consistent with the mission of Seattle University, Department of Athletics, Western Athletic Conference, and NCAA.
  • Ability to use problem-solving and ethical decision-making skills daily, in line with NCAA Compliance to provide service to internal and external constituents.
  • Work with athletic development staff in coordinating and implementing the renewal and stewardship efforts with annual fund donors.
  • Assist Athletics Development Officer on special event planning and execution.
  • Manage procurement of auction items.
  • Assist in tracking and securing revenues derived from event registration and auctions.
  • Plan and execute annual and team fund campaign.
  • Organize donor-related correspondence.
  • Coordinate volunteers for special events, fundraising campaigns, and other department functions.
  • Research donor leads and develop prospect lists in concert with ticket sales campaigns.
  • Maintain and update lists to include Key Donors, Donor parking list, and Hall of Fame list.

Job Qualifications:
