Application Process

Thank you for your interest in Seattle University's Executive Leadership Program. In the last few years we have experienced a significant increase in applications. We encourage you to apply early to secure your position in the program. In the meantime, we welcome your calls and visits to our campus.

How to Apply

Admissions decisions are made by committee following a comprehensive review of a candidate’s application portfolio and a final interview. The portfolio includes work experience, past academic performance, recommendations, and a personal essay, and the committee considers and balances each of these in making its decisions.

Our Executive Education programs use a cohort model which includes substantial amounts of group work, and students are required to establish and maintain collegial, collaborative relationships with classmates. As such, admissions decisions also reflect the committee’s evaluation of how each individual applicant will contribute to the class environment and community. Admissions deadlines can be found below.

The following items are required in the application:

  1. A completed Application for Graduate Admission and a $55 non-refundable application fee (fee waived for Seattle University alumni).
  2. Evidence (degree-posted transcript or degree certificate) of a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution or U.S. equivalent. Exceptions considered on an individual basis by the dean. Please see the Application/Admissions/Enrollment Policy Handbook for additional information.
  3. Official transcripts of all post-secondary education institutions attended in the last 90 quarter credits or 60 semester credits of the bachelor's degree, including any transfer institution credit earned during this time period, and any post-baccalaureate credits. Exceptions considered on an individual basis by the dean.
  4. A current resume reflecting at least seven years of progressively responsible professional work experience. Applicant's experience should represent a mid-to-senior level role. This could apply to technical, scientific, business functional and/or managerial contexts.
  5. Three recommendations from supervisors using forms supplied in the application
  6. A two- to four-page, double-spaced essay to serve as a writing sample and statement of intent/interest in this academic program.
    • Discuss how your professional experience and educational history have led to your current professional role and how these elements relate to future personal and professional goals
    • Describe ideas and expectations for the program and how it will help attain the goals stated above
    • Explain how your experience and skills have prepared you for graduate work
    • Outline personal and/or organizational support (both individual and financial) available for undertaking program at this time

Applicants who reach the final screening will be invited to a group interview with the program admissions committee.

There are additional procedures for international students. More information can be provided on an individual basis.
