Job Title: Managing Partner
Company: Din Tai Fung Restaurant
Mentor Since: Fall 2016
Will Mentor: Graduate Students
I started Din Tai Fung in Bellevue 5 years ago and now we are working to build stores 3 and 4 in the next 4-5 months. Our two existing restaurants are two of the highest grossing restaurants in the State.
Din Tai Fung Restaurant is a global brand that started in Taiwan about 50 years ago, and now has over 125 units worldwide. However, only a handful are in the US. We specializes in traditional Taiwanese food, with a focus on "dumplings".
I started my career in the financial services industry. I worked for about 5 years as a financial consultant at both UBS PaineWebber and CIBC Worldmarkets. Then I transitioned into the tech world where I worked for 10 years at Intel Corporation in various global marketing positions. Lastly, I started my own business, in the restaurant industry, and opened my first Din Tai Fung about 6 years ago.

Mentoring Objectives & Scope
I believe in learning through shared experiences vs. telling someone what to do. I feel like I have a unique background since I've been in 3 different industries as well as worked for large corporations and started my own business. I'm also a Taiwanese American Immigrant (came to the US when I was 10 years old). So I feel like I have gone through a lot in my life so far, which I'm happy to share with people. Hopefully, they can draw from my experiences and make the best decision for themselves.
When and where do you hold meetings with your students?
I prefer to meet at one of my restaurants.
