Experience Music Project/Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP)
The Experience Music Project opened at Seattle Center on June 23, 2000. The project had been spearheaded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who wanted to dedicate a museum to Seattle-born rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix. It is housed in a distinctive building designed by architect Frank O. Gehry. It has been renamed several times but has been called the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) since 2016. Besides music, exhibits have also featured sci-fi, fashion, horror movies, video games, and pop culture.
