Black Heritage Society of Washington State
Founded in 1970, the Black Heritage Society of Washington is a community led organization that preserves the history and art of Black Washingtonians through collecting and archiving historical documents and photos, as well as conducting fundraising and educational initiatives. Housed at the University of Washington’s Special Collections, the Black Heritage Society has gathered an array of oral histories, information about the historical contributions of Black Washingtonians, and documentation of the history of Black culture and arts in Washington. The Black Heritage Society also frequently collaborates with the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) on related exhibits.
