Entrance Requirements

Theatre Entrance Requirements:

Entry into the major requires an Audition/Portfolio Review. Note: that if you have your Audition/Portfolio Review before being accepted into Seattle University, your acceptance into the major is contingent upon your acceptance into Seattle University.


Audition and Portfolio Reviews can also be done via video conferencing.  Please note when you register if you will be coming to campus for a review or conducting one via video conference.

We recognize that theatre makers emerge from a variety of backgrounds.   You may be interested in more than one aspect of theatre or not have specific experience in any particular area.  Find yourself in one of the areas below that best represents your passion.


  • Prepare 2 contrasting pieces (e.g. classic vs contemporary ,or comic vs. dramatic) no loner than 2 minutes.  Choose something that will help us know you as person as well as a performer. 
  • Optional: You may also sing 16 bars of a song of your choice.  There will be no accompanist: please provide and play your own recorded music or sing acapella.
  • Resume or pertinent experience
  • Headshot or other photo (for our reference)


  • Resume or pertinent experience
  • 2 -3 example of work product (drawings, renderings, video, photo, models)
  • 2 - 3 examples of paperwork (things that show your organizational and technical skills, e.g. cue sheets,plots, drafting, prompt book, tracking paperwork)

We’re interested in all kinds of expression not just related to theatre specifically.  e.g,  painting, sculpture, ceramic arts, music, makeup ,poetry, short stories. 

Portfolios are not accepted in advance.


The following scholarships are to awarded to incoming students through the Audition/Portfolio Process

Artistic Potential Award

One-time $1,000 scholarships are available for exceptional incoming students pursuing a theatre major.   These scholarships are awarded for artistic potential in one or more areas of theatre and are awarded through the Entrance Review process.   Eligibility is based on financial need. 

Mary Lou and Richard Amen Scholarship     

The Mary Lou and Richard Amen Scholarship (up to $2000) is awarded to theatre majors with a preference for students who also have a demonstrated and continued dedication to pursuing music.  Awarded in the first year by faculty through the Entrance Review process, this award is renewable yearly through faculty review.  Eligibility is based on financial need.

  1. Complete an Entrance Review
  2. Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or theatre professional who can speak to your artistic promise.   
    Submit letters to: Rosa Joshi Put “THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP RECOMMENDATION” in the subject line.
  3. Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
