Theatre Entrance Requirements:

Entry into the BA in Theatre major requires an Audition/Portfolio Review. 

Note: that if you have your Audition/Portfolio Review before being accepted into Seattle University, your acceptance into the major is contingent upon your acceptance into Seattle University.

Guidelines/Requirements

We recognize that theatre makers emerge from a variety of backgrounds. You may be interested in more than one aspect of theatre or you may not have specific experience in any one particular area. We are interested in who you are as an artist, your creative expression (e.g. dance, sculpture, ceramic arts, music, poetry, knitting, short stories,) not just your theatre related experience.

Please choose the areas below that best represent you and your passion:

Audition

• Prepare 2 contrasting pieces (e.g. classic vs contemporary or comic vs. dramatic.) Please take into consideration that your choices help us understand you as person as well as a performer. 
• Optional submission: Sing 16 bars of a song of your choosing. You may use an accompanist, your own pre-recorded music, or choose to sing acapella.
• Résumé
• Headshot (does not need to be professional)

Portfolio

Show us what you’ve got! Choose creative and organizational samples that will give us insight to who you are as a person, your approach and skill.

• Résume
• 2 -3 Creative work samples (drawings, renderings, video, photos, models)
• 2 - 3 Organizational and technical work samples (e.g. cue sheets, plots, drafting, prompt book, tracking paperwork)

Scholarships

The following scholarships are to awarded to incoming students through the Audition/Portfolio Process

Artistic Potential Award

One-time $1,000 scholarships are available for exceptional incoming students pursuing a theatre major.   These scholarships are awarded for artistic potential in one or more areas of theatre and are awarded through the Entrance Review process.   Eligibility is based on financial need. 

Mary Lou and Richard Amen Scholarship     

The Mary Lou and Richard Amen Scholarship (up to $2000) is awarded to theatre majors with a preference for students who also have a demonstrated and continued dedication to pursuing music.  Awarded in the first year by faculty through the Entrance Review process, this award is renewable yearly through faculty review.  Eligibility is based on financial need.
