Program Summary

The Fine Arts department offers two music-focused majors, a music minor, and an array of music courses open to all students.

String Performance (BM)

The Bachelor of Music in String Performance at Seattle University is the first professional degree program of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, offering students a concentration in solo and chamber music performance. All students who play violin, viola, violoncello and bass are eligible to apply and audition for the degree program.

This unique Bachelor of Music degree allows students to receive conservatory-like training while obtaining a liberal arts education. Students receive individualized attention within a small cohort, with a focus on professionalism and entrepreneurship in solo and chamber music performance.

For more detailed information, visit the Strings section of this site.

Music Emphasis (BA in Interdisciplinary Arts)

The Fine Arts department offers an exciting and unique opportunity for interdisciplinary study in the arts. While the emphasis track is specific to music, this program requires students to take courses outside the chosen field; students are encouraged to explore the endless possibilities that exist between music and other art forms. This unique degree is an excellent alternative to the strings program, allowing students to pursue studies in vocal music or other instruments.

Music Minor

The Music Minor is a rewarding and popular choice for students pursuing any major, campus-wide.
