Principles that Frame our Curriculum

  • Foundational
Course concepts are built on theory and demonstrated through practical examples from the sport industry.
  • Applied
You will be empowered to make data-driven decisions that will decrease your organization's impact on the environment while maintaining financial targets.
  • Comprehensive
Assignments are focused on developing a comprehensive sustainability campaign that is engrained in the organization’s strategic plan and ensures the success of organization’s environmental sustainability efforts.
  • Experiential
Students are required to complete a practicum (may be in a sport organization where you work or an internship with a sport organization in your area).

Most students can complete the certificate within 9 months. Students completing the certificate may apply their certificate credits to obtain a Master of Sport Administration and Leadership degree. Please note that admission to the 48 credit MSAL program is a separate process, and completion of the certificate does not guarantee admission into the MSAL program. For more information, please visit the Master in Sport Administration and Leadership program site.

The Certificate in Sport Sustainability Leadership is administered by the Master of Sport Administration and Leadership program and is part of the Center for Environmental Justice and Sustainability at Seattle University.

Gainful Employment Disclosure: Federal regulations published in October of 2010 by the Secretary of Education require institutions to disclose to prospective students particular information regarding academic programs that qualify for Title IV federal student financial aid under the "gainful employment" provision.
