Why Study Philosophy?

What can I do with a major or minor in Philosophy?

Not only is philosophy worth studying for its own sake, Philosophy students acquire exceptional critical thinking, close reading, clear writing, and argumentative skills that are highly valued by graduate programs and prospective employers. Recent major and minor graduates have been accepted by highly ranked law schools (Yale, Stanford, Harvard, University of Chicago).

As Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, predicted, “In 10 years, a liberal arts degree in philosophy will be worth more than a traditional programming degree.” Why? “Knowing how to critically think and assess from a global perspective will be more valuable than computer programming or accounting.”
