On February 11, 2017 the Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture hosted Catholics Called to Accompaniment: An Immigration Summit event at Seattle University.  The event allowed community members to participate in conversations about the role Catholic social teaching has on immigration rhetoric. Social Work Assistant Professor, Dr. Amelia Derr, was invited as the keynote speaker and delivered "From charity to solidarity: Local responses to the migration (policy) crisis."  Her speech emphasized the need for solidarity under the current presidency and served as a reminder to audience members that when humans are in solidarity with one another it simultaneously works to end oppressions as a whole.
