Each year of the Seattle University MSW program, students are matched and placed at approved social service agencies under the supervision of trained MSW Practicum Instructors. In addition, they participate in an integrative seminar with members of their cohort. The MSW program offers placements in more than 40 community sites. All students confer with the Field Director prior to placement.
Students in the 2-Year MSW program complete 448 hours of practicum, 8 hours per day, 2 days per week.
Students in their second year and Advanced Standing students complete 720 hours of practicum, 8 hours per day, 3 days per week.
Students do not choose their own placements in the Seattle University MSW program. After acceptance, the field director will be in contact with you to gather information about practice interests, experience and other details. The field director will assign each student to a placement after taking their preferences into consideration.
We have practicum placements in Pierce, King and Snohomish counties currently. However, we are always looking for new connections and new placements for our students.
The department has a process for verifying employment-based practicum placements. You will need to discuss the option with our MSW Field Director, Dr. Williamson. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
For the 2-year program, you will complete a total of 1168 hours and for the Advanced Standing you will complete 720 hours total. Daily hours depend on the placement's hours of operation and need, but most hours are completed during business hours.
