Biography

Dr. John Vinson has been the Chief of Police at the University of Washington Police Department since 2009. The UWPD provides comprehensive public safety and police services to a campus population of approximately 72,000. He was formerly the Undersheriff for the Isabella County Sheriff's Department in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. As Undersheriff, he was second in command at the Sheriff's Department responsible for the day-to-day operations and leading a staff of 60 employees. Prior to that, he was a sergeant with the Central Michigan University Police Department for over six years. John has also held other leadership positions in the private sector.

John holds a Ph.D. from Western Michigan University and a MSA in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. His B.S.B.A. in Management is also from CMU. He has conducted numerous presentations and workshops on various aspects of leadership and diversity subjects.

Dr. Vinson is an adjunct faculty member at Seattle University and Central Michigan University, and has taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses. In addition, John has taught courses at Central Washington University, Western Michigan University, and Montcalm Community and Kirtland Community Colleges.
