Advocacy Journalism Fellowship Program will run from approximately Nov 2019 – June 2020

  • Application period for 2019/2020 Fellowship is open now until October 20, 2019
  • Interviews of applicants will take place the week of October 20th 
  • Selection of Fellows will take place the week of October 28rd and program starts early November 2019
  • Fellows will be awarded a monthly stipend of $250 each
  • Fellows must commit to 10 hours per week (5 hours in the IE office); the rest working remotely
  • Fellows receive leadership training & mentoring from Asian Community Leadership Foundation (ACLF)
  • It will be an intensive program providing leadership, journalism and advocacy training for five individuals to outreach to, and engage one assigned community

The focus communities for 2019-2020 will be one of five communities selected from 

  • Cham
  • Native Hawaiian
  • East Indian
  • Korean
  • Taiwanese
  • Multiracial
  • Transracial Adoptees 

The Fellowship

  • Fellows will work directly with underrepresented communities, working to better understand challenges and issues facing the communities while reporting back to IE and ACLF
  • Fellows will have weekly hands on training in print and digital communications while learning to network and build trust across multi-cultural lines
  • Fellows will learn from experienced community organizers and leaders, journalists and media professionals. There will be a wide array of topics in monthly workshops
  • In addition to the regularly scheduled trainings and workshops, Fellows will develop a team project to be completed in June, 2020
