Teaching / Research Interests:
Dr. Carlson teaches courses in strategic communications, media law, public affairs, research methods and social media management.
Her primary research interests are in media law and policy as they pertain to new media, freedom of expression and social justice. Her current work focuses on hate speech in social media.
Dr. Caitlin Carlson is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication at Seattle University. Dr. Carlson earned her PhD in Communication from the University of Colorado Boulder.
Professionally, Dr. Carlson comes to academia with a background in public relations. She has six years of agency and non-profit experience as an account executive, account manager and director of communications. Dr. Carlson has a B.A. in Communication (Magna Cum Laude) from Clemson University, and an M.S. in Public Relations (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Denver.
In her free time Dr. Carlson enjoys live music, reading, running and exploring the city with her partner Wayne and her dog Rocco.
