Christmas Choir Concerts: A Festival of Christmas

December 1-2, 2017, 8:00 PM

Give yourself, your family and friends a wonderful Christmas treat! Set the mood for your holiday season by attending the Seattle University Choirs’ inspiring, heart-warming concert, A Festival of Christmas.  Concerts are offered on Friday and Saturday, December 1 and 2 at 8:00 pm at St. Joseph Church, 18th E and E Aloha.  The Seattle University Choirs explore the beautiful acoustical ambience of St. Joseph Church, singing from loft and transept with echo effects, and processing with candles.

Along with several traditional Christmas carols, the concerts also feature a wide variety of delightful music including “Kyrie” from Seattle University’s own Lee Peterson’s Missa Animae, the “Gloria” from Schubert’s Mass in G, and selections from Ceremony of Carols with harp. Additional representative composers are Tomás Luis de Victoria, Johannes Brahms, Francis Poulenc and Benjamin Britten.

A highlight of the evening is the traditional Nigerian carol, Betelehemu, for choir and African drums.  The Seattle University choirs and alumni, have sung this piece under the direction of Dr. Joy Sherman for 27 years. Since Dr. Sherman is retiring in June of 2018, this year will mark the last Christmas concerts under her leadership.
