  • College students overnight with community kids

    May 6, 2010

Seattle University Costco Scholars and students from Learning Communities joined forces to introduce under-served kids to the wonders of science. The Ron McNair Camp-in, held April 24-25, 2010, at the Pacific Science Center and founded by Millie Bown Russell, SU Class of 1948, honors Ron McNair, who died in the Challenger explosion in 1986.

More than 300 youth participated in activities including a private tour of the center’s world-class exhibits, science workshop, IMAX film, planetarium show, and “volatile volcano” bingo. The 33 SU students worked with center staff to provide an enriching science opportunity for the campers.

“This program is an example of how our students engage in our community,” said Audrey Hudgins, Assistant Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences. “It’s a great partnership that promotes science education and opportunities for kids.”
