Social Work Professor Ruth White published Preventing Bipolar Relapse: A Lifestyle Program to Help You Maintain a Balanced Mood and Live Well (New Harbinger Press, 2014). In her book, White, who lives with bipolar disorder, shares a science-based approach to relapse prevention and offers practical tips for individuals with bipolar disorder and their loved ones.
“Sleep, nutrition, activity, and people, what I call SNAP, are critically important to prevent bipolar relapse,” White said. “We may not yet be able to cure bipolar disorder, but we can be aware of the warning sides, make adjustments, and take the necessary steps to prevent a relapse.”
White, who received her MPH and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, also holds an MSW from McGill University. Her research and scholarship focus on maternal, child, and newborn health, comparative/international health and social welfare, and cultural and ethnic issues in social work and health. White is also the author of Bipolar 101 (New Harbinger, 2009) and writes a blog, Culture-in-Mind, for PsychologyToday.com.
