  • Debate Team to Compete at World Championships

    December 16, 2008

The Seattle University Debate Team has been offered a spot for the World Universities Debating Championship, to be held December 27 to January 4th in Cork, Ireland. It is not only the world's largest debate tournament, it is the world's largest intercollegiate competition of any type. 300 teams, representing 176 universities and colleges from around the world, will be competing. Not only is this the highest level of debate, but SU has a pair of students capable of doing incredibly well at this competition. James Kilcup and Michael Imeson are seniors at SU who have devoted much of their college career to the debate program. In the past two years, they have advanced to the finals in virtually every tournament they have competed in, not only at the regionals, but also at highly competitive international events, like the Cambridge Invitational in the UK, where the pair placed 2nd by the slimmest of margins. At last year's US National Championships, James and Michael took home 2nd Place, as well.
