The Political Science Department welcomes Patrick Schoettmer, PhD, to the faculty. Schoettmer focuses his teaching on American political institutions: Congress, the Presidency, elections, and parties. His research concerns the role of religious groups in politics in the United States.
In addition to receiving his MA and PhD in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame, Schoettmer holds an MA in Near Eastern Cultures and Languages from Indiana University. He is fluent in Arabic and German.
Schoettmer recently "Mobilization and the Masjid: Muslim Political Engagement in post-9/11 America" in Politics, Groups, and Identities, and "Zen and the Science of American Politics: Minority Religious Traditions and Political Engagement" in Politics and Religion.
Before coming to Seattle University, Schoettmer held teaching positions at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and the University of Notre Dame.
