Mexican artist Minerva Cuevas will be the Visiting Artist in the Art and Art History Department during the spring 2017 quarter.  Funded by the Pigott Family Endowment for the Arts, Cuevas will work directly with students in addition to developing a gallery-based social practice project involving students as participants and facilitators. Her week-long residency begins April 5, 2017.

According to Seattle University Galleries Curator Amanda Donnan, Cuevas will use her residency on campus to continue the kind of work she has done under the title Mejor Vida Corporation, a nonprofit that addresses social issues through art.

Cuevas, whose work includes painting, video, photography, installation, and graphic design, has exhibited throughout the world. She received her B. A. in Visual Arts from Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas UNAM.
