Professor Brian McCullough, Coordinator of the Certificate in Sport Sustainability Leadership, published Introduction to Environmental Sport Management (Forwarding Sport Sustainability, 2016). The textbook is designed for upper level undergraduates and graduate students to explore how environmental sustainability and the sport industry intersect and interact with each other.
“The sport industry is embracing environmentally sustainable practices because they are good for the bottom line as well as for the environment,” McCullough said. “This introductory text utilizes theoretical frameworks to explore the various aspects current and future sport managers must consider when formulating and advancing their environmental sustainability initiatives.”
Seattle University’s graduate Certificate in Sport Sustainability, the first of its kind in the world, addresses the global concern for increased environmental and ecological sustainability in the sport industry. The online program draws students from around the globe.
McCullough, who received his PhD from Texas A&M, joined the faculty in the Master of Sport Administration and Leadership program in 2015. A prolific scholar, he has presented nationally and internationally on sustainability in the sport industry. He currently serves on the board of the North American Society for Sport Management.
