Jorge Ferrer, SJ, Addresses Ethics Within the Church

Jorge J. Ferrer, S.J., Th.D, presents “The Ethics of Church Ministry” on May 12, 2016. Fr. Ferrer is the William F. LeRoux, S.J. Endowed Chair in the College of Arts and Sciences.

In light of recent scandals in the Catholic Church, Fr. Ferrer will discuss developments in the field of ministerial ethics, taking into consideration both personal and systemic practices which need particular attention for an updated ethics of ministry in the Church.

Fr. Ferrer is a professor and director of the Bioethics Institute at the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. He holds a doctorate in Theology from Madrid’s Comillas Pontifical University.  He is a prolific scholar and has published books and numerous articles, both academic and journalistic, on topics related to bioethics and theology. 

“The Ethics of Church Ministry” takes place at 7 p.m. in Wyckoff Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. A reception immediately follows in the faculty lounge in the library.

The College of Arts and Sciences, Seattle University's largest college, provides funding for the William F. LeRoux, S.J. Endowed Chair in Arts and Sciences. The endowed chair is awarded to a Jesuit academic in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.
