Social Work student Morgan Burdick, class of 2017, received a Critical Language Scholarship from the US Department of State to study Punjabi in India this summer. Burdick, who is already proficient in Spanish, Urdu, and Hindi, sees a critical need for social workers to understand and be familiar with the languages and cultures of immigrants and refugees in the Seattle area.

Professor Tobie Meyer-Fong will present "World of Pan and Wonder: Horizons of a 19th Century Chinese Traveler," as the inaugural Peter L. Lee Endowed Lecture in East Asian Culture and Civilization on November 14. Her presentation will focus on Li Gui who, from 1876 to 1877, became one of the first Chinese travelers to circumnavigate the globe.
