Social Work Faculty Welcome Joseph DeFilippis

The Social Work program in the Department of Anthropology, Sociology, and Social Work welcomes Joseph DeFilippis to the faculty. DeFilippis will focus his teaching on policy advocacy, social work macro practice, and social justice issues related to social work. He has published in academic books and journals on his research on gender issues, activism, and same-sex marriage. His appointment starts September 1, 2015.

DeFilippis received his MSW in Community Organizing from Hunter College School of Social Work. He is currently finishing his doctoral studies at Portland State University where he has taught since 2011.

"DeFilippis has extensive experience in teaching as well as in staff and managerial positions in the nonprofit sector," said Professor Mary Kay Brennan, Social Work program director. "He brings both practice skills and academic strength to our program."

The College of Arts and Sciences, the largest college in Seattle University, offers 79 undergraduate degrees and 6 master's degrees.
