English Professor Sean McDowell, Director of the University Honors Program, has been elected a member of the International Association of University Professors of English. The organization was founded shortly after World War II to ensure the continuance of the academic study of English as a global phenomenon even during times of future wars. The association boasts more than 500 members on six continents. Membership is by external nomination and election only.
McDowell received his PhD from Indiana University and joined the English department faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences in 2002. He was appointed director of the University Honors Program in 2012.
McDowell recently became the editor of the John Donne Journal: Studies in the Age of Donne and was appointed to the advisory board of the Variorum Edition of the Poetry of John Donne. Last spring, he organized two international conferences: He served on the program committee for the 30th annual John Donne Society Conference in February and was the Program Chair for the 64th annual South-Central Renaissance Conference (SCRC), ?Exploring the Renaissance 2015: An International Conference,? in Raleigh, North Carolina, in March. In March, he was elected vice president of the SCRC.
