Master of Sport Administration and Leadership Professor Maylon Hanold wrote “Understanding the Difference Between Leadership and Management” in Sport Leadership in the 21st Century (Jones & Bartlett Learning, 2015). The book is the first textbook entirely dedicated to sport leadership. Her chapter establishes leadership as a practice distinct from management.

In addition, Maylon published “Female Sport Leaders’ Perceptions of Leadership and Management: Skills and Attitudes for Success,” co-authored with Margaret Lovelin, in Global Sport Business Journal. Their research highlights the multiple ways women in sport leadership have been successful, adding important insights to the underdeveloped leadership literature in sport. Lovelin received her Master of Sport Administration and Leadership in 2013.
