BIOGRAPHY

Roxy Hornbeck is an academic, artist, producer, and storyteller. Her inquiry methods are grounded in the practice of arts leadership through decolonial and intersectional frameworks. Hornbeck has contributed most recently to MAI: Feminism and Visual Culture and presented pedagogy workshops for the Association of Arts Administration Educators (AAAE); Social Theory, Politics, & the Arts (STP&A); the Country Day School Headmasters Association (CDSHA); the International Leadership Association (ILA), and Performance Studies international (PSi). As a practicing artist and producer, Hornbeck has developed artistic projects through her company, quiet, spanning from original musical scores to collaborative art installations all as a means towards representative social change. 

At Seattle University, Hornbeck teaches BA and MFA courses in the Arts Leadership program including “Leadership and Interpersonal Behavior in the Arts,” “Strategic Planning in the Arts,” “Arts Entrepreneurship,“ and “Summary Project: Applied Research”. She oversees the BA internship program and co-facilitates the MFA practicum program. Hornbeck also co-curates, along with colleague, Dr. Jasmine Mahmoud, the Arts Leadership Book Club, a quarterly interdisciplinary workshop, tied to an academic or popular book, that expands engagements with professional development, intersectionality, and equity in the arts sector. 

In addition to earning her MFA in Arts Leadership from Seattle University, Hornbeck is currently pursuing her PhD in Psychology and Creativity from Saybrook University. She is studying the ways in which creative pedagogy can be implemented intentionally in order to shift structures and systems towards more equitable leadership practices in the arts. Hornbeck’s research and artistic projects seek to take these practices and deliver hands-on experiences where artists/teachers/leaders can learn and embrace the value of decolonial ways of knowing and being. 

In the Seattle area, Hornbeck serves as a founding board member for The Shattered Glass Project (an organization started by an MFA alum), she provides workshops and consultations to multiple Seattle-based arts organization, and is an active artistic collaborator.
