  • If you are in a service-learning class, there are a few steps you need to take to get started in your service. The deadline for registering with an organization is the second Friday of the quarter.

    Note: The CCE does not assist students with placements after the fourth week of the quarter.

    Sign up for a service-learning position

    Choose an organization that is approved for your course AND contact them to confirm your placement and schedule an orientation. Register your placement site on eServe by the second Friday of the quarter. (If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must sign the Risk Release form, which can be emailed to You must register your placement on eServe on time to get credit for service-learning.  Your site supervisor at the organization will approve the hours you completed at the end of the quarter and evaluate you. Your professor will view this information before grading. 

    Find an approved organization for your course

    On the first or second day of class, you will receive information about the community partner organizations that are matched with your course. You can also find this information in the Course List section on our website. Choose a position that is interesting to you and fits with your class schedule. Contact if you would like help choosing a placement. 

    Tips for contacting an organization

    The best way to contact an organization is usually email (see a sample email), but if a phone call is easier for you, be prepared to leave a clear and detailed message. Include your full name and be sure to state your phone number clearly and distinctly, twice.  You should hear back from the organization within two business days (for example, if you call or email on Friday, you should hear back by the end of the day on Tuesday).
