The SALT program is offered in two phases over a three year period.
Phase I
This is a two year phase, it focuses on scripture, biblical spirituality and leadership skills. Each year begins with an all day orientation and is offered over three seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring). Each season has nine 2.5 hour sessions.
Year One: Hebrew Scriptures
Participants are provided an overview study of the bible with an in-depth study of one of the major books: Pentateuch, Prophets and Psalms.
Year Two: Christian Scriptures
Participants are provided an overview study of the bible with an in-depth study of one of the major books: Synoptic Gospels, the Pauline letters and John’s Gospels.
Each weekly session includes an at home assignment that is prepared beforehand with the use of a study guide, small group faith sharing that flows from the home preparation, presentation by the instructor, a short focus on leadership skills and both an opening and closing prayer ritual.
A commitment to regular home preparation (a minimum of an hour a week) and to regular attendance at weekly sessions are essential to the SALT learning process.
Phase II
After completing Phase I, participants are eligible to move into Phase II, the Leadership phase. The Leadership year assists participants in identifying and practicing their gifts and skills as they respond to the call to leadership. Participants develop ministerial and leadership skills through team learning and mentoring and practice the application of their new understanding of the Scriptures.
This phase consists of 3 all day Saturday intensives. Participants also engage in a supervised ministry experience in a parish setting and participate in 4 peer-reflection meetings during this internship.
