FIELD EDUCATION ON SITE SUPERVISOR INFORMATION

On Site Supervisor Expectations

The Supervisor is expected to guide the student in the work of the site. The School of Theology and Ministry does not ask the On-Site supervisor to present or cover a body of academic material. Rather the Supervisor is to engage the student in the events of ministry that present themselves. The Supervisor and the student may engage one another in a teaching/learning moment examining a particular incident.

The Supervisor is asked at the end of each quarter to assess the student's work using a feedback form provided by the school. Once the form is completed by the On-Site Supervisor, both student and supervisor review the feedback. The purpose of the feedback instrument is to enhance and improve communication between student and supervisor. It may be used to clairify roles, relationships, goals and jobs. In some cases, job descriptions and goals are revised for the next quarter's work.

Functions of the On Site Supervisor

The On Site Supervisor has three primary functions.

  • To meet with the student(s) a minimum of one hour per week.
  • To provide feedback and evaluation to the student and their on-campus faculty (via telephone), and to compose a written evaluation at the close of each quarter.
  • To contact the Director of Field Education should there be any significant changes in the internship.

Note: An orientation session for On Site Supervisors is held prior to Fall Quarter each year .
