AUDITING CLASSES AT STM
Overview | Auditing Graduate Classes | Fees | Registration | Courses available to Audit

Overview

Providing opportunities for lifelong learning is one of the ways Seattle University's School of Theology
and Ministry lives out its mission to serve lay and ordained ministers from Catholic and Protestant traditions in an ecumenical setting. We welcome ministers and lay leaders from many different faith traditions, careers, and specialties. These colleagues in ministry reflect the ecumenical face of STM and present an exciting opportunity for STM to create a learning environment that celebrates and enriches their talents and gifts.
Auditing Graduate Level Classes

The opportunity to audit graduate level classes at the School of Theology and Ministry is one of the ways in which the School makes its rich theological, scripture, spirituality, and leadership resources available to active ministers. Classes for audit are generally only open to career ministers or active laypersons who have appropriate academic preparation and who are engaged in a ministry that will benefit from further theological education.

Auditing classes allows career ministers to participate in a particular course at a fraction of standard tuition charges. The auditing option is designed so that career ministers can listen to new ideas, read at a more relaxed pace, hear the classroom exchange and reflect on their own experiences. Please note that classes with lab or internship components are not available for audit.

Our hope is that our matriculated students will be enriched by participating in courses with professional ministers and that the exposure to the newest members of our discipline can re-ignite a career minister and enliven his or her ministry.

Please note that the level of an auditor’s participation is at the discretion of the professor, so the auditor should be sure to discuss expectations with the professor at the beginning of the course. Generally, auditors do not write papers or journals; faculty neither read nor grade their assignments.

Spaces for class auditing are limited and priority is given to our matriculated students who are taking courses for credit to earn degrees which help them prepare for ministry.

Fees for Auditing Classes

For classes occurring between June 2007 through May 2008, fees are:

  • $126 for one-credit courses
  • $252 for two-credit courses
  • $377 for three-credit courses
These fees represent a 75% discount off regular tuition
