I have worked as the Jumpstart Program Manager for the past three years, pairing college students with low-income preschool children as tutors and mentors. My passion is to make a difference in the lives of future generations, and my mission is to continue advocating for youth in our communities. Before coming to Seattle University, I worked at a local homeless shelter as a youth advocate and served on the Center for Service and Community Engagement advisory board. I feel extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work with students at Seattle University every day. I am continually impressed by the compassion and commitment demonstrated by SU students who are involved with Jumpstart, and I’m inspired by the children we work with who remind us of the importance of play and how to enjoy the simple things in life: “Sometimes you just need to take a nap and get over it,” says Maura Stuard, age 8.
