Transportation

Transportation

We provide numerous commute programs to help students and employees get to campus without having to drive alone. We also use electric and hybrid vehicles in our operations.  These efforts help the University reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and pursue its transportation goal of more than 65% of the peak daytime campus population arriving on-campus by public or alternative transportation.

Campus Vehicles

Facilities purchased its first electric vehicle in 2001 are there are now 21 electric vehicles and one electric-assist bike used by staff working in grounds, the building trades and custodial.  In 2008, Public Safety replaced two vans with two Ford Escape Hybrids for the evening night hawk shuttle. Public Safety officers patrol campus on mountain bikes.

Commuters

We provide employees and students with incentives to bike, bus, car/vanpool and walk to campus. Incentives include discounted transit passes, a hybrid Zipcar parked on campus to rent by the hour, discounted parking for car pools and free parking for van pools, locker room and showers for bikers, an evening shuttle for walkers and a guaranteed taxi ride home in case of an emergency for employees who do not take their car to work.  Go to our Commuter section to learn more.
