Welcome to Sustainability at SU!

LEED Certified Student Center |
Universities are like small towns when you consider the annual quantity of energy, water and natural resources consumed, the waste generated and greenhouse gases emitted. Seattle University employees have been collaborating since the 1980’s to implement innovative ideas that have a positive impact on people, the planet and prosperity. Our pesticide-free grounds, food waste compost facility, recycling program and energy conservation program have each won several awards. Campus Initiatives details our sustainable operations practices.
There is still much that staff, faculty and students need to do to greatly reduce our campus’ contribution to climate change. To share ideas on your key issues, connect with others who share your passion and create opportunities for collaboration, join in the Green Discussion Forum.
Students are learning about sustainability in and out of the classroom. Faculty are doing research on a wide variety of areas related to sustainability. Academics highlights progress in this area.
Individual action is also needed. Small steps really do make a difference. The
Get Involved page will give you ideas.
