  • Install non-App Store Applications on a Mac

     

    Objective:

    Install applications on your Mac that don't come from the Mac App Store

    1. Open  System Preferences.
    2. Click on  Security & Privacy .
    3. On the General Tab, click the Lock .
    4. If prompted, enter your username and password.
    5. Under "Allow applications downloaded from:", click Anywhere .

    Detail: Step by step:

    Some Seattle University Mac workstations have a default security setting that allows only limited application downloads from the Mac Apple Store or identified developers. In order to install some applications from Seattle University (like those required to print with Managed Print Services), you may need to change this setting.

    Prerequisites

    You must be an administrator on your computer to make these changes. If you are not an administrator, you will need to contact the Help Desk for assistance.

    Instructions

    If you see an error like the one below, follow these instructions

    Step 1: Click on the Apple in the upper left-hand corner.

    Step 2: Click on System Preferences.

    Step 3:  Click on Security & Privacy .

    Step 4:  On the General Tab, click the Lock .

    Step 5:  If prompted, enter your username and password.

    Step 6:  Under "Allow applications downloaded from:", click Anywhere .
