  • Printer - Connect to a network printer on a Windows XP computer

     

    Objective:

    Connect to a Printer on a Windows XP Computer

    1. Open Windows Explorer
    2. In the bar at the top, type the  printer name using the format   \\oitps#\prt### and hit Enter (Ex. \\oitps2\prt444).
    3. The printer will now be in your printer list. You will be able to select the printer when printing from Word or any other application.

     

    Detail: Step by step:

    Step 1:  Click the Start Menu     xp start button .

    Step 2: Select Printer and Faxes  (If it is not visible, your Start Menu may have it listed under settings).

    Step 3:  On the Printers and Faxes window, click Add a printer .

    Step 4: The "Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard" window will appear, click Next .

     

    Step 5:  Select " A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer ." and click Next . Local or Network Printer

    Step 6: Select " Connect to this printer."

    • Type in the  printer name  using the \\oitps#\prt### format Specify a Printer 
    • If you choose to Find a Printer in the Directory, then a Find Printer window will appear Specify a Printer, Find a printer 
    • To search for a printer name, type in part of the building name in the location field and Click  Find Now.
    • Find the printer in the list and double-click on it.

    Step 7:  Choose yes/no to make the printer your default printer and click Next .  Default Printer, yes or no 

    Step 8 : The Completing the Add Printer Wizard appears. If the information is correct, click Finish .

    Step 9: The Printer will now be in your printer list. You will be able to select the printer when printing from Word or any other application.
